Christ overcomes the grave and gives Eternal Life
Sermon Summary for 23rd Sunday after Trinity

Death cares nothing for our feelings or plans for the future. It often comes without warning. We are powerless against it, and can do nothing to stop it. Yet, death is no match for the power of Jesus Christ, God’s only-begotten Son. It may seem like He succumbed to it’s power, yet, He said, “I lay down My life, that I might take it again.” He laid down His life of His own free will for a purpose. Since Christ went through it for us, death will never be the same. It has lost its power and sting. It may not seem like it since the grave looks so permanent, but “faith is the evidence of things not seen.” Christ calls on us to believe that He has overcome the grave. Whoever believes in Him also overcomes it through Him. “He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

He allows suffering because He wants us to find rest and peace, not in this dying world, but in His words of eternal life, and in His empty grave, which means death has lost its sting. He says, “Fear not. Believe only.” We can put everything in His hands and trust He will make all things work together for our good. “He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” He already overcame our greatest enemies of sin, death, and the devil. He earned eternal life for us and promises, “Because I live, ye shall live also.”
